Welcome to Day 9 of Alaskan Mindful Breathing

Did you know that we take about 23,000 breaths a day? That’s right 23,000. We can live without food for several weeks and without water for about three days. But most of us can only survive without air for a minute or two. When we breathe in, we deliver oxygen to all parts of our body. When we breathe out we release toxins and unwanted gases. Breathing regulates heart rate, digestion, levels of stress and calm, experiences of pain and more.

Joe DiStephano’s TedTalk, titled Bre.athe, describes three breathing techniques you can practice at home. From the beginning through minute 10:31, he explains the science behind the benefits of breathing practices. His guided practice runs from minute 10:31-14:44, with some descriptions of why it works in-between.
